This is done solely for the sake of economic operations. I believe that whether it is possible to extend the operating time of the resin tower depends on the parameters of the brine; as long as those parameters remain within acceptable limits, it should be possible to extend the operation time.

It depends on what resin is used, as well as the load on the tower. For the three-tower process, regeneration takes place every 24 hours; in other words, a switch is made every 12 hours, from the front tower to the back tower to the regeneration stage

A simple calculation shows that the cycle time = K/flow rate; generally, when the amount of resin used remains constant, K is a fixed value. Reducing the flow rate can extend the cycle time, as acid, alkali, and water also represent costs.
