There is a batch of petroleum equipment that needs to be shipped by sea to the United States. Due to the harsh corrosive conditions at sea, the equipment is bound to suffer corrosion during transportation. Once corrosion occurs, the recipient will certainly file a claim. Therefore, I would like to ask corrosion experts what measures can be taken to prevent corrosion of the equipment during sea transport. The materials used for this equipment are mainly Q235 and 40Cr. If it’s a small device, it can be placed in a container; if the device is large, some plastic or similar material can be used to wrap it.
There are specific standards for export packaging; it is recommended to check online, as they may be available on standard-sharing websites.
I’ve seen that some design institutes require nitrogen protection for equipment used in maritime transportation, though the specific reason is unclear.
For reference only: Plastic sealed packaging or other types of sealed structures, with gas-phase corrosion inhibitors placed inside them, can be very effective.
