I currently work at a coking plant; I think the working environment is poor and not suitable for me. I want to switch to equipment design, so I would appreciate some advice from those who work in this field. Is it the same when it comes to design too? ! !
Coking plants should also have their own equipment maintenance shops, right? It’s much easier to first work in the factory for a few years before moving on to the design department. Of course, the working environment for design is great – one just needs to draw diagrams in the office – but there is a lack of experience in the field and in manufacturing. Designing is certainly not as simple as just drawing; one needs to understand and be familiar with relevant regulations and standards. Just Volume VIII-1 of ASME is enough to keep you busy for several years. There is a lot to learn when it comes to working with equipment, and the topics are varied – such as heat treatment, corrosion prevention, scale removal, and so on. Spending two or three years in the workshop allows one to learn how to do some design work, but designing can be quite tedious; especially when there’s a rush to complete tasks, as mistakes in design can result in penalties! Anyway, everything has two sides; it’s up to you to weigh them out.
