Design of U-shaped bend

I would like to ask about the purpose of the U-shaped bend below the condenser and its size requirements.
A U-shaped bend is typically designed below the condenser to allow the condensate to flow back into the reaction vessel; this U-shaped bend helps to balance the pressure differences, and a height of around 1 meter is usually sufficient
The U-shaped bend also serves as a liquid seal; otherwise, a large amount of gas that has not been condensed would enter the condenser directly, causing liquid to be carried in the vent stream
