Gate valves and butterfly valves are used for cutting off flow; ball valves and globe valves are typically used for small diameters, while gate valves are used for medium diameters and butterfly valves for large diameters. It is mainly the structural design of butterfly valves that makes them suitable for manufacturing large-diameter valves. If gate valves are designed for large diameters, their weight becomes very high due to their structure, making it difficult to operate them. However, gate valves offer better sealing performance than butterfly valves, with less risk of internal leakage. In terms of price, gate valves of medium and small sizes have prices that are not much different from those of ordinary butterfly valves; however, for larger diameters, conventional wafer-type butterfly valves (non-specialized butterfly valves) offer better pricing.
