Shanghai Gaqiao Petrochemical is building a new 1.2 million-ton catalytic gasoline adsorption desulfurization unit. The 1.2 million tons per year catalytic gasoline adsorption desulfurization (S-Zorb) unit at Shanghai Gaqiao Petrochemical was recently put under construction, with completion scheduled for the end of 2009. By then, the company will have the capability to produce both Euro IV gasoline and Euro IV diesel on a large scale, so that all vehicles attending the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai will be able to use high-quality gasoline and diesel produced by Takahashi Petrochemical. This facility has the capability to produce high-quality, ultra-low-sulfur refined gasoline, which will significantly elevate the quality level of the company’s refined products. It is reported that S-Zorb is a process technology developed by the American company ConocoPhillips for producing low-cost clean fuel oils (sulfur-free gasoline), and it is regarded internationally as a promising new technological process.
This set of patents has been acquired by Sinopec, and 5 or 6 sets are currently under construction across the country.
It is understood that this device has an extremely strong desulfurization capacity; if the sulfur content is too low, the adsorbent will reduce the octane rating of gasoline.
