Hello everyone! What are the design temperature principles for LNG cryogenic atmospheric storage tanks and LNG pipelines? I see that some values are -170 degrees while others are -165 degrees; what determines these values?
The design temperatures for LNG storage tanks at low temperature and normal pressure, as well as for LNG pipelines, are determined based on the lowest temperature of LNG. This lowest temperature is related to the process parameters during the liquefaction process, such as the degree of subcooling.
It is determined based on the standard boiling point of LNG, which is -162°C, as the operating temperature.
The specification is less than minus 20 degrees; the design temperature = operating temperature minus 0 to 10 degrees

The normal operating temperature of LNG pipelines is -162, while the design temperature is generally -196

Since LNG stations need to be pre-cooled before they can be put into use, and the medium used for pre-cooling is liquid nitrogen, the design temperature for storage tanks and pipelines must be -196 degrees Celsius; -162 degrees Celsius is only the operating temperature of the LNG station! !

Based on the information I have gathered: for large storage tanks (such as those with a capacity of 160,000 cubic meters), LNG pre-cooling is commonly used, so the design temperature is -170°C. For small and medium-sized storage tanks (such as those with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters), liquid nitrogen pre-cooling is commonly used; therefore, the design temperature is -196°C.
