In mid-December 2009, an expert consultation meeting on \"Technical Constraints and Solutions for the Development of China’s Coal-Based Fuel Industry\" was held in Langfang, Hebei. It was organized by the Department of Energy Conservation and Advanced Technology Equipment under the National Energy Administration, with the support of CNPC, CNOOC, and Shenhua Group. Representatives from the Department of Energy Conservation and Technological Equipment of the **Energy Administration, CNPC’s National Coal Chemical Engineering Technology Center, CNOOC, Shenhua Group, China Science Synthetic Oil Technology Company, Yankuang Group, Datang Group, and other organizations attended the meeting. At the meeting, experts discussed the document titled \"Technical Constraints and Solutions for the Development of China’s Coal-to-Natural Gas (SNG) Industry\", jointly prepared by CNPC and CNOOC, as well as the document titled \"Technical Constraints and Solutions for the Development of China’s Coal-to-Liquid Fuels Industry\", prepared by the Beijing Research Institute of Shenhua Coal-to-Oil Chemicals Company. It is understood that the purpose of this meeting is to make preliminary preparations for China’s 12th Five-Year Plan in the field of coal-based fuels. By analyzing the technical challenges faced by this industry, key areas for focused effort will be identified, thereby guiding the formulation of industrial policies and ensuring **energy security. The first \"Technical and Economic Symposium on Coal-to-Synthetic Natural Gas Technology\" will be held in Beijing from January 20-21, 2010. At this conference, representatives from ENN Group will present the group’s technologies for producing synthetic natural gas from coal as well as its related industrial plans. During the conference, participants will also be taken on a visit to the Zero-Emission Coal-Based Energy Production Technology Test Center located at ENN Group’s headquarters in Langfang, Hebei Province. . (Supplementary) Nearly 10 members of the expert group, including Liu Hong, head of the Refining and Coal-Based Fuels Division of the Department of Energy Conservation and Scientific and Technical Equipment at the National Energy Administration, Liu Qun, deputy head of that division, and Li Dashang, director of the National Coal Chemical Engineering Design Center; representatives from three main organizing units; as well as over 70 representatives from companies such as China Science Synthetic Oil Technology Company, Yankuang Group, and Datang Group, attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Manager Mei Yonggang from CNOOC New Energy Investment Company. Gan Zhongxue, Deputy Chairman of the Group’s Board of Directors, and Zheng Changbo, Assistant General Manager of CNOOC, delivered speeches respectively. In her speech, Director Liu Hong emphasized that the Science and Technology Department of the Energy Bureau attaches great importance to coal chemical industry, particularly coal-based fuels. She hoped that the conference would assess industrial technological innovation from various aspects such as economic and social benefits, in order to provide support for it. 1# chemcoal
