During the maintenance period next March, we plan to move all of the local AB PLCs located on the 10th-floor platform, except for the Touchscreen Panelview (2711P-T7C6D2 DH485 -J), to the cabinet room to facilitate maintenance. The touch screen communicates with the DH485 port on the CPU SLC 5/03 (1747-L531). I would like to know what the maximum transmission distance for DH485 is Is communication from the 10th-floor platform to the cabinet room (about 100 meters) supported?
The DH-485 network is a local network suitable for factory-level applications. DH-485 allows connection of up to 32 devices, including SLC 500 and Micrologix 1000 controllers, color graphic systems, and personal computers. The DH-485, along with the auxiliary RS-232-C (DF1 protocol) links, forms a DH-485 network. Use the SLC 500 programming software to program the SLC 500 controllers on the DH-485 network. This means that a single computer connected to the DH-485 network can program all the SLC 500 controllers on the network. The DH-485 can reach up to 1200 meters in length. http://www.abplc.com/dh-485.html

I talked to the manufacturer yesterday, and he said that the maximum distance between Panelview and the DH485 of SLC5/03 is 10 meters. After reading the introduction above, I checked the AB selection guide and found a very good example diagram. I still need to discuss this with the manufacturer tomorrow; I guess I’ll have to buy a pair of 1747-AICs
