The small and medium-sized film evaporators used in the laboratory are presumably the common rotary evaporators, right? What is film distillation, as mentioned in large-scale production? Is there anything special? ? ?
In industry, thin-film distillation is referred to as a thin-film evaporator. An axis is installed at the center of the evaporator’s cylinder, and usually four scrapers are mounted on this axis. The gap between the scrapers and the cylinder wall is very small; in the case of soft scrapers, the material in contact with the cylinder wall is typically tetrafluoroethylene or similar substances, allowing for close contact with the wall. Over time, tetrafluoroethylene scrapers can become worn out. A better option are fixed scrapers made of metal materials such as stainless steel, with a gap of around 1 mm between the scraper and the cylinder wall. Therefore, high manufacturing standards are required, otherwise it can lead to severe wear on the cylinder wall and significant damage to the equipment. The gap between the scraper and the cylinder wall is very small; when distillation takes place while the scraper is rotating, the thin layer of material on the cylinder wall results in film distillation with excellent heat transfer efficiency.
It’s the real version. The rotary evaporator in this laboratory is completely different. No wonder.

This device is not suitable for wastewater concentration; if evaporation is required for concentration, multi-effect evaporation could be considered
A rotary evaporator is the same as a regular reaction vessel used for vacuum distillation, or a flask used for vacuum distillation; the only difference lies in the way the material is stirred. The key to a thin-film evaporator lies in heating the material in film form, resulting in high evaporation efficiency; its principle is somewhat similar to that of molecular distillation.
