Is gasoline unloading at gas stations always done using the pumps built into the tank trucks? Personally, I think the method of using a pump built into the tank truck is the best, as no other pumps seem to be available at the moment. Are tank trucks now equipped with oil and gas recovery ports? How big are they usually?
Typically, the oil storage tanks at gas stations are located underground, and gravity-fed unloading systems are commonly used. There are also many oil tankers equipped with dump pumps.
If gravity flow is used, won’t the unloading time be very long? Moreover, can gravity flow ensure that all the oil is unloaded into the underground tanks?

At regular gas stations, unloading is usually done by gravity. Since the site of these stations is designed with a slope of about 2-3 per thousand, after unloading some stations still require the tank truck to have its brakes applied at both the front and back in order to drain out any remaining oil, with the amount of oil drained ranging from a few liters to over a dozen liters. The oil discharge port is generally designed to be three inches or 3.5 inches in diameter! ! Oil and vapor recovery systems are required only in places with strict environmental regulations or during specific periods (such as during the Beijing Olympics)! ! ! For reference! ! !
Most oil unloading at gas stations is done by gravity feeding. Nowadays, some tank trucks are equipped with API connectors, with a diameter of 4 inches, or DN100. In the case of an API interface, an oil discharge fitting is generally required, with the API fitting transitioning to DN100 or DN80 before connecting to a hose for discharging the oil into a ground tank.
It usually flows by gravity. Because the pumps in most vehicles are gear pumps. Gasoline cannot be used. The time required for unloading oil by gravity is also very fast. It usually takes 10–15 minutes to unload a 10-ton vehicle.
They are all dump trucks; it’s not possible to install a pump on them. Moreover, there’s no need for high speeds when unloading fuel at gas stations, and the amount of fuel unloaded each day isn’t very large either.
Currently, the design of gas stations follows the 2006 edition of GB50156-2002, the \"Code for Design and Construction of Automobile Fueling and Gas Refueling Stations\"; the design pressure for the exhaust pipelines of the oil and gas recovery system is 0.13 MPa, with the design temperature being normal temperature. The gas stations we design all feature closed-system oil unloading, which has the advantage of reducing oil evaporation losses and preventing oil vapors from spreading across the ground during open-unloading processes, thereby avoiding increased air pollution and potential safety incidents. Closed transfer of oil refers to the process in which oil from the tank car is transferred to the storage tank via pipes, while the gas phase from the storage tank enters the tank car through pipes. In Shanghai, bottom-discharge oil unloading is generally used; since the oil unloading pipes have a slope of 0.5%, pumps are not required. The oil and gas recovery that takes place during oil unloading is what is referred to as primary oil and gas recovery. For our designs, the pipes used for this primary recovery are seamless steel pipes with a diameter of DN80, and ball valves are installed at the oil unloading ports! I hope this helps you!
