Let’s talk about it – what are the different types of pumping units?
I think it’s possible to use the difference in liquid levels for gravity-fed pumping, or a vacuum pump to create a vacuum and draw oil in through the filter ahead of the pump. Are there any other methods?
Self-priming pumps are the most commonly used and offer the best performance, but they rely on a pressure difference generated by a liquid level difference. If the pressure difference is small, the pump outlet valve can be adjusted to a lower position, the pump bypass valve can be slightly opened, and the high-point of the pump should be vented; then start the pump to fill it!
The most common and ordinary method is to use a gravity-fed pump that relies on the difference in liquid levels to drive pumping.
Self-priming pump: Open the pump’s self-priming bulb valve and fill it with liquid.
If the inlet liquid level is below the pump inlet, the pump can also be filled with fluid flowing back from the outlet pipe.
The backflow filling pump in the outlet pipeline is very dangerous; if not used properly, it can cause significant water hammer effects. Moreover, the outlet pipe of the pump usually has a check valve.
