In our factory, steam supplied to the equipment is usually passed through a vapor-liquid separator to remove the condensed water; I’m not sure how other factories handle this. Are there also traps that need to be installed in the superheated steam piping network? How far apart should they be installed approximately
1. Increase the dryness of the steam-producing unit’s output; 2. Check the quality of pipeline insulation and its actual thermal insulation performance.
In long steam pipelines that carry steam to the equipment, condensate water is usually removed using steam traps or vapor-liquid separation tanks; this is the standard practice in most factories. Steam pipelines carrying superheated steam also require the installation of traps, but it is necessary to select the appropriate type of trap (a superheated-type one). It is needed to determine how far apart such traps should be installed by calculating the amount of condensate generated in the steam pipes; reference can be made to technical manuals for this purpose.

Our company has steam traps, one every about 20 meters. Our steam has a high superheat level, so although the vents are opened as per normal procedure, they basically don’t serve any purpose.
