Adding a pour point depressant to diesel can change its cold filter plugging point. My company is used to lower the cold filter point.
After adding antifreeze agents, the freezing point is primarily reduced; the cold filter point also decreases to some extent, but usually by less than the freezing point. As for how much the difference is, it can only be determined through a pilot test.
Adding a very low concentration of antifreeze agents (below 1‰) to diesel can **improve its flowability at low temperatures; therefore, antifreeze agents are generally used to alter the cold filter point of diesel
Depending on the quality and type of oil, the use of antifreeze additives yields different results. In the most extreme cases, such as oils with high wax content and high freezing points, it is not possible to lower either the freezing point or the cold filter plugging point. As the wax content decreases, the freezing point may drop, while the cold filter plugging point remains unchanged; Next, both of them can decrease. Generally speaking, the freezing point is always a little lower than the cold filtration point.
Both the diesel pour point and cold filter plugging point can be reduced; the reduction in the cold filter plugging point is smaller, and some experiments can be conducted.
It’s completely possible, but antifreeze agents are highly specific, so some screening tests are required.
Generally, antifreeze agents have very good effects in lowering the freezing point, but it’s already quite good if the cold filter point can be reduced by 3°C
