Why, when opening the surge valve on a syngas compressor, is the circulation section opened first and the fresh gas section opened afterward, while when closing it, is the fresh gas section closed first and the circulation section closed afterward?
It is mainly to prevent backpressure, as the pressure of the recycled gas (the pressure in the synthesis system) is higher than that of the fresh gas. When opening the surge valve, the recycled gas valve is opened first to release pressure, followed by the fresh gas valve, thereby reducing the likelihood of backpressure. When closing the surge valve, if the recycled gas valve is closed first, the pressure in the synthesis system rises after one valve has been closed, which increases the risk of backpressure.
I’ve learned it.* I’m a beginner – isn’t anti-surge control automatic? Was it talking about manually developed projects upstairs, or the automatic valve-opening process? If it’s automatic, it should be set in the DCS. I’m not sure if that’s correct? Please give me some advice!
