What’s the purpose of the pump’s high-point vent? I would appreciate advice from those with experience: how exactly should this be designed? Should valves or pipes be connected at the pump’s inlet and outlet?
The situation you described can be divided into the following 3 categories: 1: Venting at the high point in the pipeline before the pump. The suction pipe of the pump must meet the pump’s requirement for \"netsuction head\"; the pipe should be as short as possible, with as few bends as possible, and must not contain any air pockets. If it is unavoidable, a vent valve should be installed at the high point. However, this situation is relatively rare; generally, air bags are not installed in the piping before the pump. 2: The pump itself is equipped with an exhaust valve. Some pumps are equipped with exhaust valves; when the pump is first started, these valves are used to release gas from within the pump, thereby preventing cavitation. 3: High-point vent on the pump outlet pipe. Pump outlet pipes are generally equipped with a high-point vent valve; when filling the pump before starting it, this valve is opened to release the gas inside the pump and prevent cavitation.
