To analyze the CO and CO2 contents in gases using gas chromatography, with a packed column and a thermal conductivity detector, what type of column is required? I heard that two columns are needed, one for reference and the other for analysis. I’m not aware of the specific configurations and requirements; please advise, experts!
CO gas chromatographic analysis is performed using a TCD detector, with 5A or 13X molecular sieve columns, and silica gel columns for CO2.
Porapak was used in series with 5A molecular sieve, and switching was employed for analysis. Or it is also possible to use just one column of TDX-01.
There are quite a few issues with LZ; the question is about which type of column to use for analysis; Reference and analysis columns are issues related to the instrument’s structure.
It will be fine if the TDX-01 column is used.

If TCD is used, there’s no need for a nickel conversion furnace; in my opinion, the purpose of a nickel conversion furnace is to convert CO and CO2 into CH4 for detection using a FID (which offers higher precision than TCD). Use PQ as a pre-column, then molecular sieves for separation, and TCD for detection.

The TDX-01 column is sufficient; if analyzing trace amounts of CO2, CO and CO2 need to be converted to CH4 to improve analysis accuracy
