I need to conduct an experiment on multi-effect distillation soon. What exactly is multi-effect distillation? How to design such an experiment?

I know that three-effect distillation means using the heat from the overhead material in the pressurized column as a heat source for the reboiler in the atmospheric pressure column; this improves the efficiency of distillation and helps save energy. So I think multi-effect distillation means roughly this: it enables energy savings and improves the separation efficiency.
