What does the exhaust pressure of a gas compressor depend on?

This is a passage I saw in an article. I think there is something wrong with the way it is expressed. I think there is something wrong with the first half of the sentence, but I don’t understand the second half. Hope you can give me some advice!
This sentence is correct. The values measured by the inlet and outlet pressure gauges are the pressures at the inlet and outlet of the system, and are also the pressures at the inlet and outlet of the compressor. The changes in these two values change with the changes in the pressure at the inlet and outlet of the system, so the above statement is correct.
This sentence is correct. The discharge pressure of a piston compressor depends on the pressure of its discharge system. Only when the discharge pressure of the compressor is slightly higher than the pressure of the system behind it can the gas be discharged. So it changes with changes in system pressure.
