Our factory is going to implement RBI, risk assessment. Has anyone done this before? It is said that Maoming Petrochemical (in collaboration with Hefei General Machinery and the French company BV) used it to keep the ethylene plant operational for 79 months without any need for maintenance.
1# wzd :) How should I do this?
Our company is engaged in RBI work, and we have had multiple cooperation experiences with Hefei General Research Institute. In 2002, Maoming Petrochemical was the first to implement RBI in its facilities. Are you a subsidiary of Sinopec? I am currently working in the RBI; you can contact me if you want to know more
The RBI is indeed a good option, as it allows for an extension of the maintenance cycle for certain equipment. However, if this is to be done, a thorough risk assessment must be carried out, as this is very important; otherwise, serious problems can arise.
What you said makes sense. At the first company where I worked after graduating, Unit 303 of Lanzhou Petrochemical, an explosion and fire broke out just a couple of days ago, resulting in 6 deaths. Fortunately, through my efforts to get in touch with them, all my classmates and former colleagues were safe……
Now, many chemical companies have a clear purpose for implementing RBI: to avoid the economic losses resulting from shutdowns and tank opening for routine inspections. However, the real purpose of RBI is to identify the corrosion mechanisms of various components in the equipment, to select those with high risk for close monitoring, and thus to ensure targeted management and inspection. Predicting in advance in what way equipment might fail is an effective measure to improve management standards, and this is something that equipment managers in chemical companies as well as RBI professionals in inspection agencies need to understand. Many of Sinopec’s chemical enterprises have elevated RBI to a managerial level; Maoming and Zhenhai were among the first two to do so, with very good results.
Haha, it seems that with RBI doing a good job, the amount of work we have to do for regular inspections will decrease. Is the moderator also from Jiangsu Special Inspections? 6# realben
I’m currently working on a thesis related to RBI, and I really feel that this topic is extremely meaningful. The oil and gas industry is prone to accidents these days, as many of the equipment is either outdated or severely corroded. Management claims to prioritize this, but as long as it doesn’t affect them personally, they ignore it completely and go ahead to make money!
