What do you think is the best way to measure steam flow?

Do you think orifice plates are better or vortex flow meters are better for measuring steam? The orifice flow meter I’m using now seems to have a large error. Because the steam supply on my end isn’t running continuously; it stops for a while after being used for some time, yet there is still a flow rate display even when it’s stopped. Moreover, when the weather gets cold, the pressure guiding pipes freeze easily, which is a hassle. I still haven’t figured out why there’s an uncertainty in the readings. The installation was done correctly; could it be that when the condenser freezes and then thaws, pressure builds up inside?

Use vortex flow meters – they are easy to maintain and install. Steam systems that are turned off for periods of time can easily freeze up in weather like this

It seems that even though it has stopped, there is still flow – this is probably due to condensate still flowing in the pipes or fluctuations in the pressure of the pressure guiding pipes. Vortex flow meters are definitely better, as their measurement range is much larger.

Using Anubaa works too, it’s just a bit more expensive!

Use vortex flow meters; they are much better than orifice plates. If the heating system for orifice plates isn’t properly implemented, things can go wrong.

Our company uses Yokogawa’s models, and they work quite well!
