I keep forgetting when to open the superheater drain valve when starting or stopping the boiler; I always need someone to remind me. I also don’t understand its principle. Thank you all
The superheater drain valve has two functions: one is to be used for draining water from the superheater header； Another function is to protect the superheater tubes during boiler startup and shutdown, preventing damage due to excessive temperatures. Because during startup and shutdown, the main steam valve is closed, if there is no steam flow to cool the tubes of the superheater, the temperature of the tube walls will rise, and in severe cases this can lead to the destruction of the superheater tubes. To prevent the superheater tubes from overheating during startup and shutdown, the steam trap can be opened to vent steam, thereby protecting the superheater.
