Our facility has a radar level gauge that is used to measure the liquid level in storage tanks containing organic substances at temperatures of over 90 degrees. Once during winter, the liquid level suddenly dropped to even zero, and this condition persisted for about over an hour. It returned to normal later. Is it caused by the condensation and crystallization of organic vapor at the measuring antenna of the radar level gauge? If that’s the case, shouldn’t it be displayed as 100% of full scale?
The operating temperature of radar level gauges manufactured by some companies cannot be too low; if no insulation measures are in place outdoors, it is likely that the low temperature will prevent the level gauge from functioning properly. I have encountered this phenomenon before: the radar level gauge used in winter (I won’t mention the manufacturer) often gave inaccurate readings, but the problem was solved by covering it with a cover :)
I’m not sure which brand you’re using; I’ve used Beijing Guda before, and the same issue occurred there – just delete the echo and generate it again
1# TDI5 may be a fault caused by the instrument being affected by temperature. Take a look at your configuration. Does it output 0% or 100% in case of an instrument failure?

We have encountered this situation as well; it seems that the medium inside the tank condensed at the antenna. The manufacturer’s staff came to deal with it at that time! There’s no good solution. It seems that radar level gauges don’t only perform poorly for our company!
It seems to be caused by the external environment; the low temperatures in winter must be the main culprit!
