What is the composition of the products manufactured by your company? 1. What is the proportion of diaphragm (ion-exchange membrane) type, and what are the proportions of caustic solutions with different concentrations (specifications) among those of diaphragm (ion-exchange membrane) type? 2. I don’t understand what you mean; we use liquid caustic with 32% ion exchange membrane. There are many types of solid alkali structures
The proportions of diaphragms and ion exchange membranes are the result of historical factors, while the structure of caustic soda is determined by market influences. Most chlor-alkali companies prefer to produce only 32% ion exchange membranes.
Currently, diaphragm production has essentially stopped, with ion-exchange method being used instead for all production. The concentration of the alkali produced is adjusted according to customer demands; there is no fixed proportion required. Take solid alkali as an example: once a customer places an order, production starts immediately. Sometimes, no production takes place for half a year, during which only tablet alkali is manufactured.
The production load and product structure are adjusted by taking into comprehensive consideration production costs, the demand for chlorine in downstream industries, and the status of product output. Overall, diaphragm alkalis are more expensive and of lower quality than ion-exchange membrane alkalis, but demand from users remains steady due to their lower price. As for the production of caustic soda flakes, firstly, too much chlorine is used in downstream processes, which leads to inventory buildup of caustic soda; producing caustic soda flakes makes it easier to store and transport them over long distances. Rather, it is the company’s sales strategy, aiming at long-distance sales. Therefore, the general level of operation is not very high, but it is still a facility that is necessary to invest in. Our current ratio is diaphragm 1, ion exchange membrane 3, caustic soda flakes 1.5, and about 2 for 50% caustic soda.
Generally, a caustic soda solution with a concentration of 45% (theoretical value) is used as the raw material, and purification is carried out using processes such as solid-alkali reactors or falling/falling-film techniques. The purity achieved in these reactors can reach 96%, while the theoretical purity for ion-exchange membranes is 98%. However, in practice, the purity level cannot match that achieved in solid-alkali reactors, and moreover, the construction of the equipment required for these processes is quite complex. As a result, ion-exchange membrane products are mainly composed of sodium hydroxide solids in concentrations of over 90%.
