But circuit breakers, contactors, thermal relays, etc. are still needed for control. The client requires the use of drawer cabinets; I am thinking of using 1/4 unit drawers. I wonder if anyone has used them before and whether they are safe. I’d like to offer some basic advice; thank you in advance, junior member.

It is possible as long as the drawer has sufficient capacity. However, if there are many components in the control circuit, it is recommended to use a single unit. Heat dissipation and maintenance must also be taken into consideration.

The 1/4 drawer cabinet is available only from ABB. I have visited ABB’s factory in Xiamen, where I saw that the material of the 1/4 drawers is plastic, and there is no partition between two adjacent drawers; therefore, if one drawer experiences a short circuit, it can easily affect other circuits as well. Therefore, I recommend avoiding its use as much as possible.

We have used them; generally, the maximum power of 1/2 unit is 7.5 KW, and it becomes unusable at higher levels. The components are difficult to assemble and maintain. In my experience, it’s best to use a single-unit drawer, but this increases the cost. It is possible to design combinations of drawers that include control circuits along with those that only provide power supply.
The power isn’t high, so there’s no problem; the largest we’ve made has handled 250A.
