The book on pressure pipeline design and engineering examples states that threaded flanges are generally used in situations where welded connections are not suitable, such as with galvanized steel pipes. Does this mean that galvanized pipes and fittings are connected using flanges, and welding is not an appropriate method?
There is an incomplete understanding of welding standards and specifications; in practical applications, it is quite common to weld galvanized pipes and fittings directly together. If the process requirements are not too strict, this approach can be used just fine.
Got it. One more question: if the nominal diameter of the pipe is relatively small, should butt welding be used? Still socket welding?
