Why is there always a knocking sound from the desiccant dryer in our unit? How should this be dealt with?
If the trap does not drain water properly, water hammer occurs; the trap may be undersized or blocked by foreign objects. Checking forum posts related to water hammer can be helpful in resolving the issue.
It’s likely a problem with the trap; foreign objects inside the trap are causing poor drainage. At the same time, too much \"water content\" in your steam can also cause the aforementioned problems.
Our unit also has this problem; it might be that the strainer selected is too small, preventing water from being drained in time, which causes the steam behind it to condense rapidly and resulting in water hammer. It’s also possible that the strainer is clogged

It’s caused by the steam coming into contact with the cooling water; just turn off the steam and it will be fine. I’ve encountered this problem as well

This post was last edited by swwsdwf on 2010-1-29 at 10:10. Do all the traps in your plant make noise, or is it only some of them? If they all make noise, it’s a problem with the model of the traps; if not, there’s an issue with the traps themselves.
The trap is not functioning properly to drain water; it may be of an undersized model, which prevents water from being discharged quickly. As a result, the steam passing through it condenses rapidly, generating a water hammer sound. The trap might be too small, or it could be blocked by foreign objects such as rust. Another reason is that one end of the waste discharge pipe is higher, causing water to accumulate in the pipe; coupled with the continuous supply of steam, this results in a loud noise.
