Hello everyone. I saw a newly installed pump at the workshop, and the nameplate indicates that the material used is S-5. Could someone please explain what this material is, what its composition is, and what standard it corresponds to in terms of country-specific designations? Thank you!

S-5 is not a material grade but rather a set of grade numbers for materials; therefore, it’s important to read the standards carefully
S-5 is a material grade specified in the API 610 standard; the materials used for its flow-through components are primarily carbon steel, the sealing rings are made of 12% chromium steel, and the shafts are made of 4140 steel (equivalent to 42CrMo per national standards).
Material grade numbers are provided in Appendix H of the API; there are detailed requirements for the materials used in each component
