Can a low flow rate at the compressor outlet and resulting decrease in actual rotational speed cause the compressor to shut down due to overspeed? The instrument indicates that the speed sensor has failed, resulting in a interlock. If so, what is the reasoning behind this? There’s no excess number, right? It discusses the same issue; I recall that our steam pump stopped working because the outlet valve was closed too tightly during a switch-over. How can this problem be explained?
A low turbine exit flow, a decrease in the inlet steam flow, and a drop in rotational speed make it impossible for an overpressure trip to occur. It can only be a false reading on the instrument.
If the flow rate is too low, the turbine may experience surge and excessive axial displacement; check whether there is any interlock that has caused the shutdown

If the turbine exhaust flow decreases, the turbine speed drops, which in turn causes the compressor speed to decrease; thus, a situation of compressor overspeed tripping cannot occur. Most likely, the flow rate of the medium at the compressor inlet remains unchanged, which can lead to compressor blockage, similar to surging! It could be a protective shutdown. As for what you mentioned about the instrument indicating a sensor failure, that could be due to a damaged sensor probe or loose wiring, etc.
