Let’s discuss whether it is better to use a DCS or a PLC for the control system of the desalination unit in fertilizer plants!
Using a PLC is good – it’s both economical and practical. All the functions of a DCS control system can be fully achieved through a computer control system based on microcontrollers and PLCs! We often have users with such requests: that the system functions developed meet their requirements and operate in a stable and reliable manner!
I suggest using a PLC; there aren’t many control points needed, and the cost of a DCS is too high. A PLC can fully meet your requirements.
1# nmnlmhg: For the several systems we have developed, DCS+PLC is used; the main control system is based on DCS, while individual units make use of PLC. In DCS’s opinion, it is relatively expensive, has a rather sparse layout, and requires a large amount of space. However, having been around for so many years, it must have its own advantages.
The desalination unit is relatively simple and has few control points, so it’s better to use a PLC.
In terms of price, there is not much difference between domestic DCS systems and imported PLCs, but it seems that DCS systems are simpler to maintain!
Our factory uses PLCs for both desalinated water treatment and wastewater treatment; they are from GE, and they have worked very well so far.
Using a PLC will suffice; using a DCS is a bit of overkill.

Desalination units are basically composed of sequential control points; taking this characteristic into account, using a PLC is more economical, convenient, and reliable than using a DCS.
