Some time ago, we noticed ammonia escaping from the wiring conduit of one of the instruments. Upon inspection, it was found that the thermocouple sheath in question was damaged, allowing ammonia to leak out through that sheath as well as through the terminal blocks. Having worked for so many years, I had never come across such a method of leakage, and it’s surprising that the thermocouple tubing can corrode so quickly. So I’m writing this to share this information with everyone, as a piece of experience

Is it confirmed to be ammonia corrosion? Could it be a problem with the original manufacturing defect? Pure ammonia isn’t corrosive at all
May I ask what material the protective sleeve originally used for the thermocouple was? What material should be used later for the corrosion-resistant thermometer sleeve? Please give your advice
May I ask where the ammonia is located? Does it also contain hydrogen sulfide, water vapor, and things like that?
This feeling seems a bit exaggerated; ammonia itself has very little corrosive effect, and it becomes alkaline only when it’s mixed with water. It’s likely that the problem lies with the instrument pipes themselves – perhaps the welds are of poor quality, there are air bubbles inside, or there were human errors during installation, haha
