The distance between roots has little to do with whether a PLC is used; a PLC should be employed to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the device.
The flare system uses a PLC to control the field instruments and ignition, transmitting signals to the control room via a data bus. There are generally mature flare control systems available; using a PLC saves costs on site, enhances safety, and relies on proven technology.
It’s sufficient to install an automatic ignition system on-site; it’s best not to transmit it to the control room
