Can relatively viscous fuels such as 380 fuel oil be stored in internal floating roof tanks? If so, what issues need to be taken into consideration? For example, will high viscosity have an adverse effect on the operation of the floating disk? Please speak up more

Internal floating roofs are generally used for light oils with low flash points in order to reduce oil evaporation losses. It is not necessary for heavy oil; floating roof tanks are also more expensive compared to dome roofs. They are also located on the second floor, and if the heating is insufficient, it can affect the floating deck.
Typically, fixed-roof tanks are used only for fuel oil (also known as heavy oil), and an internal floating roof is not required. Floating oil discharge devices were installed on the fuel oil storage tanks at the power plant, and the plant management said it wanted to use the oil from the upper layer of the tanks.
Internal floating roofs are used to reduce oil evaporation losses; therefore, there is no need to use them for heavy oils. They are generally employed for light oils. The floating outlet system mentioned earlier is still useful, as heavy oils may contain small amounts of water or other impurities, and drawing oil from the upper layers helps to ensure its quality.
For oils with relatively high viscosity, I think a top-feed tank type is quite good! Internal floating roof tanks are not only costly but also unsuitable for oils with high viscosity!
Agree with the opinion above; light oils should be stored in internal floating roof tanks. For heavy oil, it is recommended to use dome tanks, along with adsorption tanks (for sulfur compound recovery), water seal tanks (to reduce volatilization), and nitrogen sealing systems.
It’s not necessary; heavy oil has poor volatility, so a dome tank is sufficient, and its cost is relatively low as well, with safety facilities being easy to install.
