Adding iron powder enables displacement; the finer the particle size, the higher the reaction temperature, and the faster the displacement rate!

When elemental iron is added to a copper sulfate solution, a displacement reaction occurs, producing ferrous sulfate and elemental copper. Their chemical reaction equations are as follows: Fe + CuSO4 → FeSO4 + Cu (1) AsO3– + 9H+ + 3Fe → AsH3↑ + 3H2O + 3Fe2+ (2) Reaction (1) occurs preferentially to reaction (2); therefore, under normal conditions reaction (1) is the main one that takes place. However, if the copper content in the solution is too low, reaction (2) may occur, resulting in the formation of the highly toxic gas AsH3. This should be avoided as much as possible during the production of sponge copper.
Use iron powder for replacement, but be careful not to let the pH get too high, as this could lead to excessive consumption of iron powder and increased costs. 1# wanglong7018
