My design for the water supply to the oil slurry cooler involves using recycled water from other coolers, that is, secondary water. What do you think are the reasons for this?
In my opinion, the main issue is that the slurry cooler is prone to leakage; using fresh water can lead to contamination, and it also helps save energy.

If circulating water is used, high requirements are placed on the material due to the large temperature difference. Moreover, the temperature of the external slurry oil should not be too low, as this can easily lead to line coagulation. Another point is energy conservation and reduction of consumption
Since the oil slurry tends to form a wax film on the tube walls during rapid cooling, this hinders heat exchange and affects the efficiency of heat transfer; as a result, the tube walls remain cold while the temperature of the oil slurry does not drop. Therefore, recirculated water that has been pre-heated is used in the oil slurry cooling tank, which is what is known as secondary water. This is the main reason.
This is similar to the use of secondary water in the residue coolers of atmospheric and vacuum distillation units; using fresh water for cooling would result in the formation of a waxy layer on the pipe walls, which affects heat transfer and prevents the temperature from dropping after cooling. Therefore, secondary water is used to avoid such issues.
