We handle 200,000 tons of methanol. The design allows for feeding directly from the synthesis flash tank to the pre-tower, or it is also possible to feed from the synthesis flash tank to the crude alcohol tank and then use a crude alcohol pump for feeding. However, at present feeding is done via the crude alcohol pump. Upon inspection, I found that there is a considerable amount of paraffin in the filter screen of the crude alcohol pump; I am considering whether it is necessary to add another filter screen at the inlet of the crude alcohol tank Otherwise, wax formation in the crude alcohol tank will definitely be severe over a long period of time. By the way, has anyone cleaned the methanol storage tanks after putting them into use? How often should it be cleaned every few years?
We have always used the back feeding method and have never cleaned it, but we have cleaned our flash tank, and there is indeed a lot of wax inside.
Two suggestions: 1. The methanol separator and crude alcohol filter located after the gas-gas heat exchanger should be back-blown or cleaned regularly to prevent the movement of paraffin downward. 2. The composition of coke oven gas and the reaction conditions of the synthesis catalyst are crucial, and these need to be carefully controlled

We installed a filter at the outlet of the separator; before entering the expansion tank, there are two control valves, one in use and one as a backup, allowing for easy removal and cleaning at any time!
The original poster is really careful; different raw materials require slightly different processing methods! Open the methanol storage tank during the major repair to take a look, clean it up as well, and check the condition of the equipment! Paraffin can be found in distillation towers!
