Will 90% glycerin aqueous solution burn when exposed to an open flame? I want to use it as a liquid for circulating heating
Glycerin is also commonly used as a heating medium, especially in laboratories. Still, it’s better to avoid open flames – safety first.
I know that pure glycerin is flammable when exposed to an open flame. However, I intend to use it for industrial purposes, and only glycerin solutions with a concentration of 80%-90% can reach the required temperature of around 120 degrees. Of course, the system is a closed loop, so the possibility of exposure to an open flame is very low. As you said, safety comes first; I still would like to know whether this glycerin aqueous solution at this concentration is flammable. Thank you
Can’t it be done in actual experiments? If it is a homogeneous solution, the likelihood of combustion is relatively low; however, if moisture evaporates after a leak occurs, it creates a combustible safety hazard.

There is water; it’s a closed system. For water at 120 degrees to turn into steam, it needs to be vented out, right? Use heat transfer oil; it’s convenient.

70-80% ethanol solutions are very easy to ignite, and pure glycerin is also flammable; therefore, it is presumed that 90% glycerin solutions should be easy to ignite as well

There are upper and lower water tanks, with steam being discharged through pipes to the upper auxiliary tank. The auxiliary tank can add water to the main tank at any time to maintain a constant water level in the main tank. The temperature in the auxiliary water tank generally does not exceed 100 degrees; as long as glycerin does not turn into vapor and escape at this temperature, that’s fine. Those who have the necessary experimental facilities should conduct experiments – if it does not burn at this concentration, then everything should be okay.
