EO is mainly used in the production of ethylene glycol, accounting for about 71.7% of the total EO consumption, making it the largest consumer of EO. The second largest consumer of EO is surfactants, accounting for about 12.5% of the total EO consumption. It is reported that global EO consumption will continue to grow at an average annual rate of 5.2 over the next 5 years, with surfactants contributing 3.5% and diol ethers 1.7% to this growth. Since EO is not easy to transport over long distances, there are no imports of EO in the domestic market. Using ethylene oxide as a raw material, addition polymerization reactions with various initiators in the presence of catalysts can yield various types of non-ionic surfactants. Starting from fatty alcohols, a range of fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether products can be produced ； Using alkylphenols as raw materials, alkylphenol polyoxyethylene ether products can be produced ； Using fatty acids as raw materials, fatty acid polyoxyethylene ester products can be produced ； Amine ethers can be produced using fatty amines as raw materials ； Using diethylene glycol as a raw material, polyethylene glycol series products can be produced ； Polyether products can be produced by using polyols (such as sorbitol and glycerin) as raw materials and reacting them with ethylene oxide and propylene oxide.
