I would like to ask fellow sailors: what are the safety requirements and precautions that need to be taken for the internal and external anti-corrosion treatment of oil tanks? The more, the better.

For corrosion prevention inside the tank, it is necessary to analyze the concentration of flammable gases; when the lower explosion limit is ≤4%, the concentration should be ≤0.5%; When the lower explosion limit is >4%, ≤0.2% ; The oxygen concentration is within the range of 19%-23.5%, and the levels of toxic and harmful substances do not exceed the **specified maximum allowable concentrations of such substances in workshop air” ; 2. Before carrying out anti-corrosion work inside the tank, all workers must be given a detailed safety briefing ; 3. When entering the equipment to carry out work, there must be a dedicated person outside to supervise, and methods of communication and signals should be established. There should be no obstacles inside or outside the equipment’s entrance and exit to ensure unobstructed access ; 4. Make full use of the ventilation openings on the tank to ensure good air circulation inside it; all manholes must be opened, and axial flow fans should be installed on these manholes to facilitate ventilation ; 5. Workers entering the tank must not bring any sources of fire inside; smoking is strictly prohibited within the tank. It is also forbidden to carry out any operations that could generate open flames or electric sparks either inside or around the tank. In the event of a fire caused by paint, water should not be used to extinguish it; instead, foam, carbon dioxide extinguishers, or dry powder extinguishers should be used to put out the flames ; 6. During anti-corrosion work, no electrical equipment or lighting that could cause explosions or fires shall be brought into the tank; explosion-proof charging lamps must be used for lighting inside the tank ; 7. When carrying out anti-corrosion work, protective gear against toxins must be worn. After working inside the tank for a total of 2 hours, the activated carbon must be replaced. Workers inside the tank shall not work continuously; they must take a break outside the tank every 20 minutes ; 8. Workers entering the tank must be in good health; they should not work while sick, nor rest inside the tank. If workers exposed to toxic and harmful substances experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or dizziness, they should be immediately taken to a well-ventilated area or taken for medical treatment ; 9. A certain number of first-aid equipment and fire extinguishing devices are provided outside the tank ; 10. A warning line must be set up around the manhole on the tank wall, and it should be indicated that anti-corrosion work is in progress inside the tank; smoking and using fire are strictly prohibited both inside the tank and around its wall (including the wall itself) ; 11. Count and register the personnel before and after the task to ensure consistency in the number of people entering and leaving. Workers entering the tank and their supervisors must receive training on safety emergency procedures and first aid methods
Just one thing to note: the storage tank must be thoroughly cleaned before use, by exposing it to steam for more than 2*24 hours.
Cleaning and displacement should be carried out prior to the operation; only after analysis confirms compliance can the subsequent anti-corrosion measures be undertaken
Be careful of poisoning, fires, falls from heights, and electric shocks.
