The centrifuge separator achieves the separation of solid impurities from the liquid phase as well as the removal of those solids, by taking advantage of the speed difference between the screw (feed pipe) and the drum (outer cylinder). Which one of them is actually faster?
The external speed is high while the internal speed is low – there’s a difference of about 50 revolutions!

The drum rotates faster; it is the main component used for centrifugal separation. In the case of spiral slag removal, the required speed isn’t as high.
There are both; we refer to this as leading or lagging. It is related to the purpose of the centrifuge (clarification or concentration), the direction of rotation of the screw, and the design of the differential. Generally, the speed difference ranges from 2 to 60, depending on the application. . . . . .
The speed of the drum and the speed of the screw are determined based on the properties of the material to decide which one is faster or slower; different process requirements result in different rotation speeds, so it’s not possible to make generalizations.
