May I ask at what temperature range does tap water start to scale?
General water scaling occurs above 37°, with the scaling rate reaching its maximum at 58°; of course, time at this temperature also plays a significant role.
Whether tap water scales or not is related to factors such as water quality, temperature, and flow rate. Water quality is the main factor, and it can be assessed using the following indices: (1) Langelier Saturation Index: L.S.I. = pH – pHs. A value greater than 0 indicates scaling; L.S.I. = pH – pHs = 0 means no corrosion or scaling (indicating stable water quality); L.S.I. = pH – pHs < 0 indicates corrosion. (2) Ryznar Stability Index: R.S.I. = 2pHs – pH. A value between 4.0 and 5.0 indicates severe scaling; 5.0 to 6.0 indicates mild scaling; 6.0 to 7.0 indicates basically stable conditions; 7.0 to 7.5 indicates slight corrosion; 7.5 to 9.0 indicates severe corrosion; and a value greater than 9.0 indicates extremely severe corrosion. (3) Puckorius Scaling Index: pHeq = 1.465lgM + 4.54. R.S.I. = 2pHs – pHeq. A value less than 6 indicates scaling; R.S.I. = 2pHs – pHeq = 6 means no scaling or corrosion; and a value greater than 6 indicates corrosion. ************ Of course, temperature accelerates these processes.
