In aromatic hydrocarbon production plants, alumina towers have been used in the past to remove olefins. The drawback of these towers is that their lifespan is short, and the alumina waste generated is difficult to handle; the disposal of such waste can cause environmental pollution. I’ve heard that a new DOT technology has been developed for removing olefins. Could someone please explain the principles and process behind this technology?
