May I ask if a lofting template is required for large openings or manhole openings on the cylinder? As for how to create a template, this template for lofting is oval in shape. Excuse me, what is this ellipse formula?
Manufacturers generally do not provide drawings for manhole openings. First, the center point of the opening is identified; then four points are marked along the axial direction and perpendicular to it to determine the positions for the manhole connections. The manhole is then placed in position, and a circle is drawn around it using a chalk line, after which the excess material is cut off. Final adjustments can be made as needed. This is how riveters in workshops proceed, unless the shape of the opening is very unusual, in which case drawings are provided. Riveted and welded parts have a lot of errors
No templates are used for making holes in the cylinder; instead, marks are drawn on the cylinder according to the actual shape of the pipe to be fitted.
Theoretically, it should first be lofted, and then holes should be cut according to the dimensions obtained from that lofting, but in practice, the method used on the second floor is more common, as even after cutting holes based on the lofting calculations, adjustments are still required during assembly.
In our workshop, we usually don’t do any drafting; for small ones, we set it at 4 points, and for larger ones, we simply use the existing pipe fittings

For example, if you want to cut material from a conical tube, you need to unfold it and place it on a flat surface; only then can the dimensions of that shape be used for actual cutting. This is what is referred to in manufacturing terms as lofting
