Recently, there are many types of waterproofing technologies available in China. So, which ones are commonly used for actual applications?
Polymer-modified asphalt waterproofing membranes: Continue to use SBS and APP modified asphalt waterproofing membranes as well as self-adhesive rubber-asphalt waterproofing membranes. Vigorously develop self-adhesive modified asphalt waterproofing membranes applied using the wet-laying method, promote roof greening practices and the use of root-barrier membranes, and actively employ asphalt shingles with glass fiber mats. The use of asphalt waterproofing membranes with composite mats and paper-based tarps should be restricted, while coal tar-based sand-faced waterproofing membranes are prohibited. Synthetic polymer waterproof membranes: Continue to use polyvinyl chloride and ethylene-propylene terpolymer waterproof membranes; promote the use of one-piece polyethylene-propylene (polyester-propylene) waterproof membranes together with polymer-cement bonding systems; accelerate research and development of self-adhesive synthetic polymer waterproof membranes applied by wet laying methods; restrict the use of polyvinyl chloride-chlorinated waterproof membranes, and phase out waterproof membranes made from recycled rubber. Waterproof coatings: Continue to use polyurethane waterproof coatings, polymer-cement waterproof coatings, and cement-based waterproof coatings; promote the use of cement-based penetrative crystalline waterproof materials as well as silicone waterproof coatings. Develop and apply spray-painted polyurea and polyurethane waterproof coatings, research and utilize water-based asphalt-based waterproof coatings with high solid content, and promote the use of specialized waterproof coatings such as those for roads and bridges. The use of polluting coal tar-based waterproof coatings is prohibited. Sealing materials: Continue to use acrylate sealing materials (mid-grade), and strongly encourage the use of high-grade sealing materials such as polysulfide, silicone, and polyurethane. Actively research and apply special primers for sealing materials in order to improve their adhesion as well as their water resistance and durability. The use of sealing materials such as plastic putty and PVC mortar is prohibited. Waterproofing agents: Continue to use general-purpose waterproofing agents; promote the use of M1500 water-based penetrating waterproofing agents and permanent setting agents (DPS), as well as silicone-based and fatty acid-based waterproofing agents. The use of waterproofing agents with high chloride ion content is restricted, and the use of powdered waterproofing agents with excessive amounts of alkaline aggregates is prohibited. Grouting materials: Cement-based grouting materials are used for foundation reinforcement, while cement-based grouting materials combined with epoxy are employed for structural strengthening, particularly low-viscosity epoxy grouting materials that cure in wet conditions. Ultra-high early-strength self-leveling grouting cement, as well as polyurethane and acrylate grouting materials, are used for waterproofing and leak sealing. The composite grouting technique is recommended for different engineering scenarios. The use of toxic and polluting grouting materials such as prothrombin is prohibited. Waterproof mortar: Actively use polymer-cement waterproof mortar; advocate for crack-resistant waterproof mortars containing polypropylene fibers (PP), nylon fibers, and wood fibers; and research the application of zeolite-based siliceous densifying waterproofing agents. Vigorously promote the use of commercial mortars (specialized mortars for waterproofing, insulation, corrosion protection, bonding, sealing, and self-leveling). Waterproof and thermal insulation materials: Continue to use extruded and molded polystyrene boards along with mortar-based external wall insulation systems; actively promote the use of sprayed polyurethane rigid foam materials for waterproofing and insulation; and develop the use of polymer-modified polystyrene particle insulation mortar systems as appropriate. The use of thermal insulation materials with high water absorption rates, such as expanded vermiculite and expanded perlite, is restricted. The use of loose material insulation is prohibited. Bentonite waterproofing materials: Natural waterproofing materials—sodium-based bentonite waterproofing materials—are to be actively utilized. Specific types include bentonite expansion seals for water prevention, bentonite waterproof boards and blankets, as well as powdered bentonite waterproofing materials. Special waterproof materials: Choose and apply metal waterproofing membranes, and explore the use of specialized waterproof coatings for cultural heritage protection.
