How to deal with a sudden black screen on DCS?

If it’s just one device that goes black, there’s nothing to worry about. If the screen goes black completely, just follow the emergency procedure. I wonder if you have an accident response plan

Did the computer operated by the operator go black? That’s not a problem; it can still be used by using another backup machine. It will not affect production.

Generally, when the computer in the central control room goes black, the computers in the field instrument rooms can still be used to monitor production operations; the cause must be identified and the system restored as quickly as possible. If even the computers in the instrument rooms cannot be used for control, then the cascade shutdown system has to be activated.

First, contact the instrument maintenance personnel to find out the cause； Second, find a computer that can be used for production as soon as possible ； Third, if it is a problem with the computer system that requires an upgrade, the manufacturer must be brought in to handle it ； Fourth, if it is a graphics card issue or the card is too small, the instrument maintenance staff can simply replace it or add one ； Fifth, if the display is damaged, the instrument maintenance staff must replace it ； Sixth, if it is a simple system issue, it can be handled by the instrument maintenance staff.

This is something I’ve encountered, but I’m not involved in hydrogen production; I work in coking. Our DCS system failed, which caused the heating furnace to shut down automatically. We managed to restart the heating furnace’s ignition as quickly as possible, which was fortunate, as the radiation feed pump didn’t stop operating, so production wasn’t halted

1. When the DCS screen goes black, immediately inform the shift leader and the dispatcher; ask them to handle the situation while also checking whether the engineer station’s screen is also black. II. If the engineer station works well, then there’s no need to panic. III. If the engineer stations are also showing a black screen, immediately contact the field operators to go to the site to check the important process parameters, and inspect all pumps, control valves, as well as whether the large-scale compression units are functioning properly. If the control valves lose control, manual control via a bypass system must be employed. IV. In the event of a black screen, do not panic immediately; think through the steps for emergency shutdown. Check whether the DCS can be restored within a short period of time (one hour). If that’s not possible, promptly activate manual control modes to shut down the facility urgently.
