Does that friend know that asbestos gaskets cannot be used with media that pose an extremely high level of hazard? Which standard specifies this? I just can’t remember? Could you please help explain it?
These days, it’s not just that asbestos is extremely hazardous – its use is prohibited. China has joined a convention banning asbestos, and in theory, asbestos cannot be used in any medium whatsoever. However, disappointing news came with the revision of GB150: the m and y values for asbestos gaskets were not removed. Asbestos gaskets in China can only be used for water, steam, air, and some inert gases. This regulation is specified in HG20583
For gaskets used with extremely highly hazardous media, only metal gaskets may be used.
