Is the expansion joint generally installed in front of or behind the control valve? What’s the difference?
There is no inevitable connection between the two; the installation location of the expansion joint is related to the stress compensation requirements of the pipeline.
The function of an expansion joint is to compensate for the stress-induced displacement of pipes; therefore, it should be installed at the location where compensation is most needed. When considering displacement, both the fixed end and the moving end must be taken into account.
Calculate the expansion factor of the pipe material; based on experience, it determines how far apart they should be placed. It seems that this distance has nothing to do with the location of the valves. Personally, I think it’s better to place them a bit closer together, but still at least two meters apart
