Our company currently has a project in which there are over 10 pieces of equipment in the oil tank area, with an installed capacity of around 400 KW. Most of these devices operate in a one-in-use-one-backup configuration, so the actual power consumption is around 200 KW. The oil tank area is located 60 meters away from the main power distribution room. I would like to know whether it is necessary to build a power distribution room in the oil tank area under these circumstances. If so, should high-voltage cables or low-voltage cables be used? 1. A power distribution room can be built. 2. The issue of high voltage versus low voltage is determined by the power of the motor; generally, motors with a power of 160 kW or 200 kW or more use 6 kV
The oil tank area is not very far from the main power distribution room, and its installed capacity is not large either; moreover, it would be unsafe to build a power distribution room in the oil tank area! It is recommended to expand the main power distribution room; do not build a power distribution room in the oil tank area!
The answer is that it’s not necessary; 380V low voltage is the preferred choice for voltage.
I don’t think it’s necessary to build another distribution room – it’s not economical nor safe
It is entirely possible to build a distribution room in the tank farm; 6KV cables will be more than sufficient to meet the requirements, thereby improving operability and safety
Since the distance is not very great, it is recommended to expand the facility by using a 400V power supply; this makes management easier, and it also places the facility closer to the main power distribution room and further away from the oil storage areas, which enhances safety. Try to avoid placing the power distribution circuits too close to the tank area.
