When standard lugs selected according to the standard HG/T21574-2008 are used on equipment with a large diameter but low mass, they appear to be too large; in such cases, a large portion of the head is covered by the shims. In this situation, should one choose standard lugs or non-standard lugs for verification?
A container with a large diameter but low weight indicates that its wall thickness is very thin; therefore, it’s even more necessary to use lifting lugs that are large and thick. When choosing lifting lugs, it’s important to select those with sufficient load-bearing capacity, so as to avoid equipment accidents due to issues with the lugs. After all, no matter how large the lifting lugs are, they don’t cost much. Moreover, if one chooses to design lifting lugs instead of using standard ones, it requires a great deal of work and effort from the designer.
For containers with a large diameter but low weight, that is, thin-walled equipment, the construction party must use appropriate fixtures for reinforcement during lifting; relying on lifting lugs is not sufficient.
In fact, it’s enough to look at the standards to understand that the choice of lugs is usually due to the fact that the minimum wall thickness required by the standards for the end caps cannot be met, and not for any other reason. There are large ones and small ones.
