Why did the liquefied gas water cooler leak a few days after the shutdown? What are the main reasons? And what are the precautions?
Materials expand when heated and contract when cooled; it is recommended to tighten them while they are hot during maintenance.
I don’t know which cooler it is? During startup and shutdown, coolers are most prone to internal leakage. During this process, the cooling and pressure reduction, as well as the heating and pressure increase, must be carried out slowly.
The liquefied gas is cooled by water, so the temperature shouldn’t be very high; it’s mainly the sharp changes in pressure that are an issue.
I think the reason is that after the shutdown, the liquefied gas vaporized and absorbed a large amount of heat, which caused damage to the liquefied gas pipeline
Because when the plant is shut down, liquefied gas needs to absorb a large amount of heat as it transitions from a liquid state to a gas state; using steam or cold hot water can lead to the freezing and damage of the heat exchanger tubes. Therefore, we keep the heating source active throughout the start-up and shutdown processes of the plant. This prevents damage caused by temperature changes.
It could also be that the bolt material is inappropriate, causing the bolt to break. Either the bolts are loose.
Cooler leaks include tube bundle leaks caused by circulating water corrosion.
